A Natchez Black Woman of Honor

Ms. Sadie V Thompson

Ms. Sadie V. Thompson was born in Ohio in 1876. Her father was born in Canada and her mother in Mississippi. She moved to Natchez in 1899 to teach at Union School, a grand brick building built in 1871 on North Union Street as a public school for African American children.                                                             On January 2, 1954, at 72 years of age, Ms. Thompson was able to deliver an address at the dedication of the high school named in her honor.

 

 

 

Ms. Sadie V. Thompson never married and her life’s mission was the education of African American Students in the city of Natchez. She died on August 17,1963 at the age of 87
